Here To Serve.

A PRACTICAL EXTENSION OF OUR
CHURCH COMMUNITY

October is our Here to Serve month, where we intentionally serve others and love on our local community with acts of kindness and generosity. We’ll be partnering with local & international community organisations to lend a hand and help those in need.

We would love for you to be part of what we’re doing in the community. There are multiple opportunities to sign up over 2 Sundays in October. We will have no online service running on these Sundays & would encourage you to sign up to serve somewhere on each of these days.

” We love because he first loved us.”

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Gift Box Packing

Operation Christmas Child is a hands-on way for you to bless children in need across the world by filling shoeboxes with toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and fun gifts. We collect the boxes and distribute them in the name of Jesus Christ to children living in vulnerable situations.

We will be packing OCC Shoeboxes with gifts for children living in poverty from around the world. Boxes and most gift items will be supplied but you can choose to bring along a gift to fill the boxes (Click here for gift ideas!). This is a child friendly serving opportunity which will be hosted at Chris & Jodie Winslade’s house 10-12pm (address provided on sign up).

Queanbeyan Hospital Staff

Baking & Wrapping Gifts

This has been a year like no other and we all know it has been incredibly tough for our front line workers. We want to bless them with a small gift of appreciation by baking, decorating and wrapping some sweet treats to be distributed to the staff at Queanbeyan Hospital.

If you love to bake or can tie a mean bow then this is the place for you to serve! This event will be hosted at Ash & Talei Stoll’s house in Karabar and will run from 10-12pm (address provided on sign up). Baking ingredients will be supplied but come ready to help make, decorate & wrap!

Louisa Domestic Violence Service Queanbeyan

Virtual Food & Clothing Drive

Louisa Domestic Violence Service has operated in the Queanbeyan/Palerang Region for over 40 years. We aim to increase community awareness about the devastating effects of domestic and family violence on families and to provide clients with the support they need to live a life free from violence and abuse.

If you can’t get to one of our serving opportunities this weekend you can contribute by donating pantry items & women’s clothing to create hampers for those fleeing from Domestic Violence situations in our region. You can click here to see our virtual food & clothing drive where you can donate a hamper, or pick some items to contribute online & our volunteers will do the shopping for you! We will be packing these hampers the following week on Sunday 25th Oct. See below to sign up to serve and help pack them!

Birthing Kits International

Donate Online

Central to the work of KIT International, formerly known as the Birthing Kit Foundation Australia, is the support that they provide to mothers and newborns as part of the Clean Birth Kit Initiative. Through this project, they work with Australian and Global Partners to pack and supply Clean Birth Kits to expectant mothers in humanitarian crisis and under-resourced settings throughout the world.

We will be collecting donations for Kit International to provide Clean Birth Kits to women in need all around the world. With all the donations we collect during our Here to Serve month we will then buy the supplies needed to pack the birth kits and in 2021 will hold a Birth Kit Packing day to prepare the kits! MEALS FOR HOME IN QUEANBEYAN

HOME provides long-term supported accommodation for twenty men and women with enduring mental illness.  It features twenty self-contained residential apartments in a safe, loving, non-institutional setting.

If you can’t get to one of our serving opportunities or you love to cook and would like to help in this way as well, we will be collecting meals that can be frozen and given to the residents at HOME in Queanbeyan. Family sized meals that feed a few mouths would be great. Meals can be organised to be dropped at Rach & AJ Pickrell’s house, will be placed in a deep freezer and all delivered to HOME at the end of the month. This opportunity to serve can be done anytime throughout the month of October and is a great way to bless some of our local residents with a home cooked meal!

Hamper Packing

Louisa Domestic Violence Service has operated in the Queanbeyan/Palerang Region for over 40 years. They aim to increase community awareness about the devastating effects of domestic and family violence on families and to provide clients with the support they need to live a life free from violence and abuse.

This week we will be packing hampers for those in our local region who are fleeing from domestic violence. Many of these people leave with nothing at all and we are excited to be able to provide them with some pantry staples and some vouchers for clothing & essentials. This serving event will be held at Ps Mike & Sarah’s house in Jerrabomberra from 10-12pm Sunday 25th (address provided on sign up).

Baptist Care: George Forbes House

Virtual Craft Session

George Forbes House is an aged care facility located in Queanbeyan. With aged care facilities still not able to have visitors come in and out and many of the residents not being able to leave, these residents are in need of some love and care!

We have created a way for us to bless and interact with the residents of George Forbes House by hosting a Zoom Craft Session on Sunday 25th October! This event will be hosted at Rach & AJ Pickrell’s house from 9:30-12:00pm. We will be creating some garden themed craft (like a bird feeder or something similar) and showing the residents over zoom step by step how to make it! We will then deliver the ones that we make at the house for them to hang in the trees and gardens around the facility! This is a child friendly event and we would love kids to be there to say hi and do some interacting with the residents throughout the morning as well!

A Local Family in Need

We have been put in touch with a local family doing it tough who we would love to bless in a practical way. Details are still being confirmed for this event so check back here in the coming weeks and keep an eye on our social media for any updates!
